Review: Colour The Sky // Alive

Colour The Sky is a pop rock band from Perth, Australia and has shown their dedication, determination and persistence over the course of the last three years, playing hundreds of shows, releasing two EP’s and more recently, a self-funded trip, flying to the US to record their debut album with producer Jason Elgin. The band plans to launch their brand new album, “Alive” in early June 2012.

Here is the very first review of the album!

The album starts with Dealers. An extremely catchy song, and for fans of the genre, it sounds incredible. A generic beat throughout the song, with the bands own twists and turns, the chorus is the stand out for me.

What Makes You Sweat? is up next. Another great song. Some mega riffs and a very bouncy beat throughout the song. Everything about it is good. Throughout each chorus, the vocals seem to get more and more powerful, but the construction of the song is excellent.

The Walls Are Watching, again delivers. A more downbeat song, but just as powerful as the others in it’s own way. The last minute of the song definitely stood out for me.

And We’ll See (NYC) is a slower song, and a nice change from the previous ones. The vocals are excellent, it fits with everything going on in the background instrument wise perfectly. The lyrics are really catchy, and the overall rhythm is something to catch onto aswell.

Up next is Not A Thing You Can Do, and personally, the catchiest song on the record. The overall feel of the song is great. It starts off slower, and gradually builds up to a massive chorus. As the song progresses, it gets to a slow point, which eventually builds up with a fast drum beat into a bouncy, catchy segment and finishes up with the chorus and a nice guitar part.

Redeye is the a mix of pretty much everything we have heard thus far. From what I can hear it is a song about Perth, Australia. A song that’s easy to sing along to, and some great riffs and beats throughout.

My personal favourite, Fiction, starts off with a nice slow paced riff which follows through to the first verse. The chorus is a great sing along, and lyric wise something a lot of people everyone can relate too. As the song goes on, again great lyrics, some awesome beats until it slows down towards the end, but soon builds into a massive finish with the chorus. A perfect song for this album, and definitely something different for the genre. Great song.

Wide Awake and Sharp Claws & Weak Paws are again, 2 good songs. A bit samey to everything we have heard before these ones, but Sharp Claws & Weak Paws is definitely a bit more upbeat. There is alot going on in this song, but they have put it together well.

Finally we have Make This Count, and it has ended the album perfectly. It’s a ballad everyone can sing along to. One of the best on the album by a long shot. Typical Colour The Sky mixed with some great riffs and beats slightly different to the rest of the record. The lyrics/vocals are amazing and this is definitely noticed towards the end of the song. A perfect end to the album.

Pop Punk fans and Rock fans, look out, this album might just blow you away. Some songs do sound quite the same, but even though they may do, they are all excellent songs. If this band gets the recognition they deserve, they will come a long way.

Rate: 8/10
